CINFINITY - our founding story

Sink into a large movie theater seat, enjoy films on the big screen and do so as often as you like. This is why the two cinema operators Martin Turowski (51) and Ralf Thomsen (64) founded CINFINITY. This is the name of their app for a Germany-wide subscription to all participating cinemas.

CINFINITY shortly before the start

"It's a small revolution: download the app, pay from 12.50 euros a month and unlock unlimited movie enjoyment." Shortly before the launch of their Germany-wide cinema subscription, the CINFINITY founders are certain that they are taking exactly the right step for their industry.

Our ambition: to bring more people to the cinemas

"We want to support the cinema landscape in the long term," says Martin Turowski. He has been a cinema operator for almost 30 years and is a founding member of the Schleswig-Holstein Cinema Association. "To achieve this, it's important that we and CINFINITY are in close contact with other players in the industry, such as the German Film Academy and film distributors. We can only achieve the best results for our cinemas if we all sit together at the same table."

The idea

The idea for the Germany-wide cinema subscription via app took off in June 2022 at the Cinema Vision 2030 innovation conference. After the pandemic years, the mood of the participants was driven by the energy of finally being able to make cinema again. Thomsen and Turowski were inspired by the spirit of optimism and got started. Just six months later, they submitted their application for funding to the German Federal Film Board (FFA), including a concept and calculation for their CINFINITY cinema subscription.

From cinemas for cinemas

"The issue of reliable audience figures in particular is a constant challenge in our industry," says Ralf Thomsen. He has also been in the industry for 38 years and, like Turowski, is a founding member of the Schleswig-Holstein Cinema Association. With CINFINITY, the two want to support their industry exactly where it often struggles: with the regular influx of moviegoers.

Subscription models bring audience growth

In any case, cinema fans no longer need any convincing. "They can hardly wait for the launch of our app," says Thomsen. The number of participating cinemas is also growing daily. Subscription models similar to the CINFINITY model Cineville from the Netherlands show that participating cinemas can definitely benefit from audience growth through subscription models.

Naturally, Thomsen and Turowski have integrated their own theaters into CINFINITY and want to support their long-standing cinema locations in Heide, Büsum and Amrum (Thomsen) and Ratzeburg and Mölln (Turowski) in their day-to-day business. In addition to their shared vision for Germany's cinema landscape, the two are united by a good friendship and deep roots in their industry.
